Is it beneficial to see an IBCLC that is also a medical doctor?
Yes! As a board certified pediatrician, Dr. Michalko has undergone extensive training in newborn care and has the experience to provide expert lactation advice as an IBCLC. She can help craft infant feeding plans and care for dyads that have a more complicated history including low milk supply, birth trauma, tongue tie, bottle refusal and more.
Does my child need to be a patient at Westside Pediatrics to come in for a lactation visit?
No. Dr. Michalko sees mothers and babies as part of her pediatric practice, which provides lactation counseling as needed. She also sees parents and babies that have a different primary care physician, either in our office at Westside Pediatrics or at a different office. Your pediatrician will remain your child’s primary care doctor, and you can see Dr. Michalko as needed for lactation concerns.
Can I schedule a lactation visit with my well child visit or newborn visit?
Yes – and we recommend it! Just let us know when you call to schedule your child’s visit. If your pediatrician is at Westside, these appointments can be made back-to-back so you are seen in the same office visit.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes – we bill insurance for lactation visits, just like any other doctor’s visit you may have. We are in network with most insurance plans. Please see the billing tab for more information. If you prefer to self-pay rather than use insurance, please call our office for more information.
How long is a standard visit?
The average visit lasts approximately 60 minutes. If the lactation visit is combined with an additional visit for your child, like their check up, it could be a longer visit.
Do I need a referral?
No, you do not need a referral to schedule a lactation appointment or a childhood primary care appointment.
