Dr. Michalko will learn about your pregnancy and birth, along with your baby’s feeding patterns. Both the breastfeeding parent and baby should attend the visit. Your baby should be ready to feed during your appointment (in other words, try to come when your baby is hungry!).
Dr. Michalko will examine you and your baby and provide support during a breastfeeding session if you are direct feeding your baby. Please bring any specialized breastfeeding equipment that is currently being used. You do not need to bring a breast pump unless you have questions about the fit or settings. If you do have questions, please bring the pump with you. Nursing pillows (My Brest Friend, Boppy, standard bed pillow) are available; however, please bring your own if you prefer.
To schedule a lactation visit, call our office at 585-247-5400. If you have breastfeeding concerns, we recommend scheduling a visit for support alongside your first newborn visit. Follow up after that can be scheduled as needed.
Dr. Michalko sees mothers and babies as part of her practice, which provides lactation counseling as needed. She also sees parents and babies that have a different primary care physician, either in our office at Westside Pediatric Group or at a different office. Your pediatrician will remain your child’s primary care doctor, and you can see Dr. Michalko as needed for lactation concerns. If your pediatrician is at Westside, these appointments can be made back-to-back so you are seen in the same office visit.
